How to Get Your Virg. Special Plate

As of this past weekend we have over the 350 people required for the DMV to issue our plate. However, there is one last thing that you need to do so we reach the finishline.

Please read carefully these instructions on what you need to do to get your Virginia special plate. The due date for complete applications is January 31st, 2009. Note that the special plate is $25 per vehicle and vanity (you select the six characters) is an additional $10 per plate.

For those of you who have yet to pay for your plate:
1. Complete the DMV form vsa10 (preferably electronically) that is the official application for this plate.
2. As our plate is not yet approved, we must submit the initial 350 applications and ONE check. Please DO NOT attempt to pay by credit card on the form. Instead, please make a check out for the appropriate amount to “UM Alumni Club of Washington DC.” If paying by check is somehow not possible, please contact me.
3. Mail the completed form vsa10 and your full payment to:

UM Alumni Club of Greater Washington D.C.
ATTN: C. Robinson
P.O. Box 44835
Washington, DC 20026-4835

For those who have paid the $10 deposit:
1. Contact the AAUM club that you sent your payment to: Rubyjean Gould (gouldrl@cox.net) for Tidewater and Jacqueline Moriarty (moriartyjh@yahoo.com) for Richmond. Those who sent a check to Richmond, we know who you are and Jacqueline will likely be in touch with you soon. For those who sent a check to Tidewater, let Rubyjean know how much you deposited on your plate. The appropriate club will provide you with further instruction on where to mail your completed form vsa10 and balance due.
2. Send your form vsa10 and balance due to Jacqueline or Rubyjean as appropriate. They will reconcile the accounting and forward your completed application and payment to me.

In either case, once I have received and recorded your full payment and completed form vsa10 I will notify you via email.

ALSO, this is a team effort, so please… don’t let the team down by not observing the deadline of January 31st, 2009.

Call to Action: UM Virginia License Plate

Fill out the following form to join the effort in getting a UM license plate for VA: umvaform.doc

Many of you are aware of our Club’s effort to get an official UM license plate for Virginia. While this effort is progressing, we need more registrants in order to get the 350 registrations that the state requires to grant us the plate. The only requirement is that your car(s) be registered in Virginia.

If you would like to support this effort, please complete and submit the attached information form by Saturday, December 13th. Note that this form is not a commitment to purchase the plate, but rather a way that we can keep track of the number of likely registrants and communicate with interested persons as we complete the process.

Note - we already have a plate for Maryland! Thank you for your support and GO BLUE!

Form is available here: umvaform.doc (http://dc.umclubs.com/sites/dc/uploads/umvaform.doc)

U of M Alumni Annual Silent Auction - Donations Needed

We are gearing up for our annual Silent Auction and Congressional Breakfast!

Last year we raised over $20,000 on the silent auction alone to help fund our annual $25,000 scholarship that supports a local area student to attend Michigan, who may not otherwise be able to attend. The Congressional Breakfast is our premier event for the year with more than 300 attending. This year, our Congressional Breakfast will be held on March 26, 2009.

We are looking for silent auction donations --

In the past, we have had great success with the following items:
  • Special one of a kind items / tours / opportunities
  • Restaurant gift certificates
  • Museum tours
  • Sports tickets (Redskins, Nationals, Wizards, etc)
  • Theater tickets / gift certificates
  • Michigan related items
  • Out of town getaways / Vacation homes and rentals
  • Other interesting items

However, due to the limited space for our silent auction, we are especially targeting items with a value of $50 or more.

I have attached our donation letter and donation form, and please let me know if you have any questions or ideas for special items that we can feature at the silent auction.

In addition, we will be holding a planning meeting for the Silent Auction at Noon on Sunday December 7 at the Home of Andy Bressler (201 Third St., NE) on Capitol Hill (accessible via Union Station or Capitol South Metro). Please RSVP to Andy Bressler at Abbressler@msn.com

Thank you for all of your assistance in helping us to raise scholarship money for local students attending UM.
